Italy here we come!

Ever since we went to Diano Marina just along from the French Riviera in the north-west of Italy during our first couple of years of marriage, we have loved the Italian life style, people, weather and country side. So after all these years (34) and much “tooing and frowing” we have finally found a place in Italy that we both love in a little blue plateau village called Navelli, about 15km east of L’Aquila.

Having previously found a place in Roccopreturo last year, again close to L’Aquila, and then finding this year that after the earthquake (epicentre in L’Aquila) the front had fallen down! We were sceptical about ever being able to find anything else in our favourite region, Abruzzo. But the estate agent, Maurizio, knew exactly what we were looking for. Something a bit quirky, unusual features with good views to renovate over 5 years. And he came up trumps with this property built IN the castle walls with a 17th Century well in the kitchen and our own tower, quirky or what!

We made an offer and bingo! they accepted. So currently we are in  

the throws of negotiating the Italian house buying system with all its bureaucracy. So hopefully we will start 2010 with our newly acquired Italian home.
